The QUEEN has been graciously pleased to give orders for the publication of the names of the following as having been Mentioned in Despatches, Commended for Bravery or Commended for Valuable Service in recognition of gallant and distinguished services in Northern Ireland during the period 1st April to 30th September 1994:
M.I.D. LG: 9/5/1995 - 25026070 Private Christopher Thomas Merrin, The Worcestershire and Sherwood Foresters Regiment.
The following extract is taken from the obituary of Captain Sean Dolan, who, whilst serving as a Sergeant with the Worcester & Foresters was mentioned in the same despatch as Private Merrin, "It was during his tour of South Armagh, Northern Ireland in 1994 that he was awarded a Mention in Despatches. At the time he was a Platoon Sergeant operating from a military observation post. His platoon came under mortar attack & rather than take cover, he reported what he saw over the radio & guided other patrols to the mortar firing point. This led to the arrest of a number of terrorist suspects".
We presume Private Merrin was part of the patrol guided to the contact by Sergeant Dolan.
