Description
Medal Group of Four:
Naval General Service Medal 1915 - 62 Bar: Palestine 1936 - 1939 (JX.132696 R. L. DENNIS. A.B. R. N. ), 1939 - 1945 Star, Atlantic Star, War Medal (all unnamed as issued).
Reginald Leslie Dennis, son of Thomas James Dennis & Violet Emily Dennis of Bedhampton, Hampshire. Died on 14/12/1940 when the French Navy Torpedo Boat Branlebas sank in the English Channel. Commemorated on the Portsmouth Naval Memorial.
The French Torpedo Boat Branlebas was one of the ships of the French Navy which adhered to General De Gaulle's Free French Force after the capitulation in June 1940. The vessel was manned by a mixed French and British crew and came under the orders of the British Navy. The vessel's normal complement was 92.
