Ghuznee Medal 1839
LIEUT. JNO. AUG. TODD, 4th LT. DRAGOONS.
War Services: - Lieutenant Colonel John Augustus Todd served with the 4th Light Dragoons throughout the campaign of 1838 - 39 in Afghanistan including the siege and capture of Ghuznee (Medal). Also throughout the Punjab campaign of 1848 - 49, including the action of Ramnuggur, passage of the Chenab, battles of Chillianwallah and Goojerat (Medal with two clasps). Served as Brigade Major of Cavalry with the Persian expedition of 1857 (Medal with clasp). Also as Brigade Major to the 2nd Brigade of the Central India field force under Sir Hugh Rose in 1858, and was present at the siege and capture of Rahutghur, relief of Saugor, capture of Garrakota, forcing the Muddenpore Pass, siege and capture of Jhansi, battles of Betwa with Koonch, and affairs during the advance of Calpee and action of Golowlie. Also the action of Morar, recapture of Gwalior, and pursuit with action of Jowra Alipore. Served as Assistant Adjutant General to the Gwalior Division in pursuit of the rebels, and at the action of Ranode, also present at the capture of the fort of Powrie (five times mentioned in despatches, Brevets of Major and Lieutenant Colonel, Medal with clasp).
Appointed Exon of Her Majesty's Royal Body Guard of the Yeoman of the Guard 23rd April 1864.
